NFL Union Chief As Of The Date On Thursday ACB

WASHINGTON (AP)-Locked staredown billion dollars, the NFL and the players union has led the last day of the expiring collective bargaining agreement with the single word, and significant progress in increasing the likelihood of moves that ultimately could threaten the 2011 season.

The sides were scheduled to resume Thursday morning federal mediation. The current labor contract runs out at midnight Eastern time on Thursday that will be Friday, and among the possibilities is that the union withdraw before the deadline, the deadline could be extended, or owners could decide to block players, something the association has planned all along.
That these cases, the most popular sport in the country liquidate losing regular-season games for a work stoppage for the first time since 1987. This probably seems inconceivable that football fans who buy tickets and drive ratings, helping the NFL become an industry with annual sales topping $ 9 billion.

Two people who feel the NFL Players Association plans told The Associated Press has been prepared to decertify the union Thursday, unless last-minute wins. This activity represents the Union does not represent the players that would waive the rights of labor, and instead risk the court under competition law. People spoke on condition of anonymity because the Union has not made plans for the public.
There was a series of activities Wednesday: The four-hour mediation session involving all 10 members of the owners of the working committee, the union president Kevin Mawa (notes) and the New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (notes); meeting three hours of the owners of hotels 25 miles away Chantilly, Virginia, with another planned withdrawal Collection of owners on Thursday, and started a private mediator George Cohen from 20:00 NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell two top-flight lawyers, the New York Giants owner John Mara and the Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy.

Mara is the first owner participates in the nine days of mediation on Tuesday and Murphy left just after 21:30 Goodell leads the NFL labor negotiator, Jeff Pash, and outside counsel Bob Batterman.

"Long Day," said Mara.
Asked the purpose of the meeting in the evening half an hour with Cohen, Pash said: "To speak with a broker and get some direction."

Almost 12 hours earlier when she and other members of Goodell's NFL team arrived Wednesday for talks at the hearing said Pash, the league and the Union could agree to postpone the date for reaching a new CBA.

"We have to see where we are. We have said it is an option. Do not do anything on the table," said Pash.
The owners took no action during the afternoon session in Chantilly, and most said they were heading out of town, including some, like Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys and Robert Kraft of New England Patriots, which were mediated by Wednesday.

Owners are not required to take a vote lockout that authority has been given to their labor markets committee, which met separately for one hour.

"We can not comment, and more, we are definitely still involved in the dialogue, so no comment," said Jones.
Colts owner Jimmy Irsay of Indianapolis said the owners happy to be updated on the negotiations, but there was no reason for them to stay in Washington as the deadline approaches.

"We had a chance to ask questions, but we did not break with a vote of lockout or something," Irsay said.

Asked what should happen on the road to the expiration of the CBA, he added: "I never expected, except to have A, B, C, D and E, and still predict Change F. It a chessboard, moving. around and things happen at odd times. "

Labour members who participated in negotiations Wednesday were: Mara, Murphy, Power, Jones, Jerry Richardson, Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers Art Rooney, Mike Brown (notes) at Cincinnati Bengals, Clark Hunt, the Chiefs Kansas City, Dean Spano San Diego Chargers, Denver Broncos and Pat Bowles.
Brees, a member of the NFLPA Executive Committee, Mawa and had participated in this round of mediated talks, which started Feb. 18. But now all members of the Executive Committee of the Alliance must be at least once.

"We're not talking about" Mawa said, when he left. 'It's better than talking. "

Because Cohen said the two parties to remain silent in public about ongoing negotiations, none revealed any specific information on what progress had been made.

The highest point of glue along has been how to divide the revenues of the league, including the reduction of the team owners should be given in advance to help cover some costs, such as construction of the stadium. Under the old agreement, the owners received $ 1 billion on top. Entered these negotiations to add $ 1 billion for that.
Other important issues: a rookie salary scale, pushing the owners to extend the 16-game regular season to 18, while the reduction of the preseason with two games, and benefits for retired players.

Cohen said last week that the sides were far apart on key issues.

At the end of Thursday, more will be known exactly how far.

"I do not want to put any certainty that tonight or tomorrow might bring can provide," Irsay said Wednesday. "It's really, really difficult to predict. Things change. "

McGruder And Increase In K-State Top No. 7 Texas 75-70

Texas, the team that two weeks ago looked unstoppable in the Big 12, it is the incorrect receipt.

Rodney McGruder made 22 points, Jacob Pullen scored 20 and Kansas State muscled past No. 7 Texas 75-70 on Monday night, the fifth straight victory the Wildcats' first road and the Top Ten since 1994.

Pullen example the hard physical nature of the game, scoring 16 points in the second half despite falling hard on his right wrist as Kansas State (21-9, 9-6 Big 12) sent the Longhorns to their loss right, second and third in four games.

"Everyone wrote off. Launch the season down the drain," said Pullen Wildcats' 1 -4 start in the conference. "People say we're a good team again, but we can not let things as they come in our room and we can not relax our vigilance. Our morale is in heaven. "

Texas is headed in the opposite direction.

11-0 to begin conference play Longhorns were among the contenders for the No 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Now they are trying to put together and not worry about what they may drop.

"We're better than what we play and that's the concern," Texas coach Rick Barnes. "You have to stay disciplined with what you do. The Kansas State did exactly what I thought it would be and I was trying to get us out of our offense."

Texas (24-6, 3.12) has met its match against the Wildcats defense, which held the Longhorns shot 34 percent. Freshman Tristan Thompson scored 26 points for the Longhorns, but his teammates shot just 14 of 54 on the ground. Kansas State shot 50 percent two days after Texas gave an advance of 22 points and let Colorado get a 53 percent loss of the road.

Curtis Kelly scored 15 points for Kansas State, did much of his damage in the first half, when he had trouble scoring Pullen. McGruder was 4 to 6 in 3 points.

Thompson was the only Longhorn who could match the physical play Kansas State. He grabbed 10 rebounds and dunks are several, but got little help on the offensive. Jordan Hamilton scored 14 points on 5-of-18 shots and was a non-factor for most games. J'Covan Brown scored 11 points but did not make a field goal until hitting two long 3-pointers in the last minute.

"We were so well but we just missed our shots," said Texas guard Cory Joseph.

Texas, which was used to blow teams at home, knew it was a struggle, when Kansas State Jamar Samuels, who is 6-foot-7, trimmed Texas guard Jai Lucas 5-10 in a near collision course starts in midcourt.

But Thompson was the only one who really answered the first three dunks and difficult to bounce back. He scored 12 of Texas's first 20 points and Kansas State Best Counter Punch inside scoring Kelly and 7-footer Jordan Henriquez-Roberts.

Thompson immersed in the first quarter to put Texas up 29-24. At the time of his six field goals were more than the rest of his team. Thompson is a blow for Kelly to make Texas the first of five 3-pointers McGruder Kansas State pulled within 33-31 at halftime.

Kelly scored two consecutive baskets over Thompson starts another, then blocked Hamilton Kansas State quickly took command. Hamilton is also the edge off the 3-pointer, his tenth missed 11 shots.

"I try to be aggressive," said Kelly. "They are big and aggressive and try to attack and return to them."

Pullen then made three consecutive baskets to put Kansas ahead 50-42 with 12:06 to play.
Kansas State has maintained the lead for the next 5 minutes, but began to accumulate critical kick. Henriquez-Samuels and Roberts both took their fourth, sending a lot of inner strength for the Wildcats to the bench.

The Wildcats went just outside the points. McGruder Hamilton slipped away with his fourth 3-pointer and 60-51 lead.

Kansas State appeared to have wrapped the game when McGruder passing on a fast break 47 seconds. Brown two long 3-pointers from the right wing gave a little life in Texas before Pullen and the Wildcats put the game out of reach of the free throw line.

"Some of the specifications are confusing to be honest with you," said Barnes. "I can not tell you why, because we have shown that we can be really good defensive and offensive."

Georgia Restores RB Washaun Ealey

Athens, Georgia (AP)-Georgia running back Washaun Ealey was reinstated to the team, less than three weeks after being suspended for disciplinary reasons.

Coach Mark Richt said Ealey, who led the team last season with 811 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns, will join the team activities Monday.

"In recent weeks, Washaun have done things that we expect to do what we expect all players to do," Richt said in a statement Saturday. "He did things the Georgia way."

Ealey was suspended on February 8, fueling speculation that he was about to move. Richt does not give cause for particular punishment, but left the door open for a return to Ealey. ESPN.com reported that does not appear in a specification.

"We have certain expectations and rules that apply to all student-athletes," Richt said at the time. "We expect them to do things the right way, the way in Georgia. Washaun If you do things, like Georgia, will be back in good standing."
It was not the first time in kennels Ealey was the coach. The second year was suspended for the opening of the 2010 season after his arrest for driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident.

Although he missed the match, he was the top rusher on a team that finished 6-7 in the season losing Richt first time in 10 years at Georgia.

Georgia traffic jam of other senior, Caleb King has lost the Liberty Bowl, with academics and was suspended for two games last season for failing to appear in court to face a speeding ticket.

Ealey and the King will receive the competition this season of the signatories to the top of Georgia last week, Isaiah Crowell of Carver High in Columbus, Georgia

Richt said he expects Crowell contribute heavily as a rookie, starting the first game against Boise State in the Georgia Dome.
"I would not be shocked to see running the rock in the Dome against Boise State in the opening game if he does what he must do," Richt said.

Quenneville Returns Blackhawks 3-0 Predators

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)-Joel Quenneville spoke softly with his hoarse voice to his return behind the bench of the Chicago Blackhawks. The coach feels good, is just the price of losing a few games and come back for a game in a building Soldout.

"You can say I was far away. I can not talk now," Quenneville said.

Tomas Kopecky  and Marian Hossa  scored, and goaltender Corey Crawford stopped 31 shots and the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Nashville Predators 3-0 on Thursday night for their first game the coach's back. Quenneville lost four games due to a bleeding ulcer.
Not that the Blackhawks missed much of a step without him. They won three without him, and now the defending champions have won three straight and four of five.

"It is entirely up to us what we do with it," Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith  said. "Tonight I thought was a great team effort. That's what it will take. "

No wonder, Quenneville said it was exciting to be back as a big game.
"I felt good the whole match. I saw behind me will be the second for the third voice, suddenly it seems that the first day of training camp or the first game of the regular season resumes. It 'was used for some time. You take up a few decibels. We realized back, "he said.

I only want the Predators offense back. They outshot Chicago 31-25, but were excluded from the second straight defeat and lost three straight and four of five.

"We had some chances but we could not find them," coach Barry Trotz said Nashville. "There were some loose pucks each period, we could not get a handle on."
Crawford scored his third shutout of the season. Patrick Sharp had an empty-netter with 31 seconds left and added an assist. The Blackhawks won their season series with the team that ousted in the first round of the playoffs last April, 3-1-2.

With this game, Nashville and Chicago are among the six teams with 70 points together and fighting for position in the Western Conference.

"I do not think we ever in a place where we should feel good," Quenneville said. "You look at the posts, and next opponent is right in the wheelhouse. Six teams on 70 points is pretty amazing."

Nashville is not content with having lost his lead on the pack.

"No more excuses," said the captain of Nashville Shea Weber. "There is no reason why we make mistakes. If we do, we must do for themselves and for their increase."
Predators opened urgently after giving four goals in the third period of a 4-0 loss to Columbus on Tuesday night. They took the first five shots of the match and spent much of the first half against Crawford.

Kopecky came as an extra attacker during a delayed penalty, and Sharp to him as Kopecky reached the right circle where he snapped a shot past goalie Pekka Rinne at 17:12 for a 1-0 lead and his 11th goal this season.

Chicago was nearly a second goal 1:25 into the second when Ryan Johnson crashed on the slopes with the potential to slide the disc over the goal line, but a careful examination of each goal. The track was another great save, blocking a shot in front of Keith's mid-season.
Predators stop with Crawford, Hossa helped seal the victory early in the third with 14 this season. He lifted a pass, gathered the puck and scored on a breakaway with a wrist under the right arm of Rinne at 2:35.

"Clearly, the breakaway by Hossa was hard to swallow," said Trotz.

Predators thought they had scored 5:59 remaining, but officials immediately sign off the door. David Legwand touched Crawford, knocking him off balance before Colin Wilson to tap the puck in Crawford was also a nice pad save Wilson about 1:20 remaining.

The Impasse in the Standings Riviera

Ten years after Robert Allenby won an extension of six men at Riviera, he was part of a nine-way tie to his head Thursday at the Northern Trust Open.
Allenby kept simple, with a glorious day in Sunset Boulevard, with a 4-under 67 that turned out to result in sufficient proportion of the former Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin faltered late.
It 'was the highest score in a round door to the Riviera for 15 years.
Also on top of the league when the game was suspended darkness was John Senden, Martin Laird, Spencer Levin, Aaron Baddeley, Ben Martin, Bill Haas, Carl Pettersson and JB Holmes.
Peter Tomasulo could join them if he made a 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole, when he resumed his round Friday morning. As it is, PGA Tour said nine players tied for the lead were later after one round since the beginning of record keeping in 1970.
