Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints are riding high right now for NFL Betting
They are defending Super Bowl champions, they open up the 2010 regular season and Brees will be featured on the cover of EA Sports’ Madden NFL 11 video game.
The Saints are 3.5-point home faves for their Week 1 tilt against the Minnesota Vikings.
The defending champs are the odds-on favorites to take the NFC at +450 and are also a +850 fave to take another Super Bowl.
But there are rumors about a Madden Cover Curse as witnessed by mishaps that have befallen previous players who have had the so-called honor.
The Steelers’ Troy Polamalu and Cards’ Larry Fitzgerald were on last year’s cover and while Fitzgerald had a good year, Polamalu missed a bulk of the season with a knee injury.
After a career year, former Seattle Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander was selected as the cover guy for Madden 2007 but he suffered an injury during Week 3 and his career went downhill quickly.
QB Michael Vick, then with the Atlanta Falcons, was featured on Madden NFL 2004 and, well, we know what happened to him.
Brees doesn’t seem to be bothered by the Madden Curse however.
“Here’s what I have to say about the Madden curse: Destiny is more powerful than a curse. Whatever is meant to be will happen. Faith #fb,” Brees reportedly tweeted on Thursday.
Is there an actual curse and will it affect the Saints this season?
