This week some big matches are taking place in WTA and ATP Tournaments. Three major events, BMW Open, Estoril Open and Serbia Open are running and another event Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open is starting today.
The Estoril Open was founded in 1990 and it is one of the most famous ATP 250 events, as many top ten players won the tournament since its inception. The event is played at theEstoril Court Central on outdoor clay courts. Top seeds this year are world numeber one Roger Federer, Ivan Ljubicic and Gael Monfils.
Roger Federer defeated Bjorn Phau by 6-3, 6-4 in the second round and entered in to quarterfinals. This is the first clay court win for the federer in this season. In the quarter finals world number one Federer meets the world number eighty-three Arnaud Clement.
Federer faced Arnaud previously in 9 matches, among them federer leads 6-3 and he is very much confident about making it seven-three.
Clement has already played two matches and he defeated Igor Kunitsyn in three sets in the first round before beating Columbian Alejandro Falla 6-4, 6-3 in the second round.
Clement, who made the top ten back in 2001, should prove to be more of a challenge than Phau, though hasn’t been quite the same player that he was back then. That said, he’s looked in good shape so far here in Estoril, so he can’t be dismissed entirely.
Federer will know that if he win this game it gives a major chance to win the title. It will be worth seeing how well Federer performs in only his second competitive match on a clay court this season.
