NHL Playoffs: Blackhawks Win The 2010 Stanley Cup

After a long, arduous and rigorous season, the Chicago Blackhawks are your Stanley Cup Champions. And after a 49-year drought, the Blackhawks are once again on top of the NHL.

A lot of betting fans banked on the Blackhawks at the beginning of the season as they were a young, talented team that was set to improve. On top of that, they made it to the Conference Finals last year and were stung by the veteran Detroit Red Wings. But in 2010, the Blackhawks were the team to beat and nobody could stop them.

On Wednesday night, it was a back-and-forth affair as the Blackhawks held a 3-2 lead over the Philadelphia Flyers heading into the third period. But then the pesky Scott Hartnell tied with just under four minutes to go and it looked as if momentum was on the Flyers side. They continued to press but Blackhawks goalie Antti Niemi robbed Jeff Carter with the save of the game as overtime approached. In the extra frame, Patrick Kane snuck a bad angle shot past Michael Leighton and even though the red light didn’t come on right away, the Blackhawks immediately began to celebrate.

Marian Hossa was graciously happy after failing to win the Stanley Cup the last two seasons. Online betting fans saw him play with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2008, who lost in the Finals to the Red Wings. Then he signed with the Red Wings in the offseason only to lose in the Cup Finals to his former team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. After making it back to the Finals for a third year, he finally received a drink for the big, silver mug.

It will also mark a banner year for a few Canadians on the Blackhawks squad, such as captain Jonathan Toews, Brent Seabrook and Duncan Keith, who all won a Gold Medal in the 2010 Olympics as well.

History is not on the Blackhawks’ side however, as they are 1-11 straight up in Philly dating back to February of 1996 and are currently amidst a 10-game road losing streak in the City of Brotherly Love.

Flyers netminder Michael Leighton has struggled in the Stanley Cup but has been a rock at home, going 14-1 SU at the Wachovia Center in 2010 and according to reports will start again for Philly.
