Atlanta Braves vs Washington Nationals Baseball Betting Odds: Atlanta Braves will play against Washington Nationals in the Opening game of Best of Three series on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Turner Field, Atlanta and match starts at 10:05 ET.
The Atlanta Braves were beating Washington Nationals star rookie pitcher Stephen Strasburg 5-0 on Monday night and at the same time, they placed their own star rookie on the 15-day disabled list (DL).
The Braves’ Jason Heyward had been held out of the team’s last three games with a left thumb injury, which has been slow to heal; he’s been hampered by the injury for over a month.
According to numerous reports, Heyward underwent an MRI on Monday, which revealed “a deep bone bruise.”
“We’re doing the best thing, I believe,” Heyward told the AP after the victory over the Nats.
“Right now is a good opportunity to get it done, get the rest done, get the strength back so I’ll be able to come back the second half.”
The USA Today suggests that based on the timing of his trip to the DL, Heyward could miss the All Star game — he is one of the top NL outfielders in All Star voting.
The Braves’ OF is having a strong rookie campaign, currently batting .251 with 11 homers and 45 RBIs.
The Atlanta Braves will continue their current home series against the Washington Nationals, playing their second of three games on Tuesday — the Braves will send Derek Lowe to the mound and are favored at -200.
The Nationals are +170 underdogs and the Over/Under is set at 9.
The Braves haven’t fared well recently against the Nationals however, going 2-6 straight up in their last eight overall against Washington and in their last five home games vs. the Nats, Atlanta is 1-4 SU.
