Mighty Indian batting line up had lost as many as four wickets to the Sri Lankan newcomers for just 32 runs. Laxman, Tendulkar, Gambhir and Sehwag they all went very cheaply.
Gambhir who played ten balls was beautifully bowled out by a neophyte by any standard Welegedara.
Twenty eight year old Welegedara is playing only his second test match in the absence of two top bowlers from Sri Lanka.
On the very first day against Indians in Ahmadabad, he has already scalped three valuable wickets. Sri Lankan selectors would be happy by his outstanding performance that put the hosts under tremendous pressure.
Besides Welegedara another man is determined to make his mark again. Rahul Dravid is playing great cricket today. He seems in an attacking mood and has taken the initiative not just from Sri Lankans but has also put considerable pressure on Sri Lankan bowlers.
Dravid has already scored 59 runs on merely 86 balls. His inning includes 7 fours and a massive six.
The ease with which he is batting today suggests that other Indian batsmen simply threw away their wickets.
Yuvraj Singh is also playing with great ease. He has also scored 45 runs off only 74 balls. His inning includes eight fours.
