David Ferrer reached Finals of ATP Rome and lost to world number two player Rafael Nadal in straight sets. In the ATP Madrid he reached Semifinals and lost to World Number one Roger Federer in three sets 5-7, 6-3, 3-6. In Madrid Open he won against World Number Four Andy Murray in straight sets. He played against David Guez in first round and won in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, 6-1. He has never won any grand slam in his carrier and reached Quarter finals twice at Roland Garros.

Xavier Malisse won the first round match against Simon Greul in straight sets 6-4, 7-6, 6-4. He failed to cross the fourth round in his carrier at Roland Garros but he finished with title in the 2004 Doubles.

The both players faced three times in the international tournaments and Xavier Malisse won the two out of three in 2003 and 2004. In the last meeting Ferrer defeated him in straight sets at 2005 ATP Miami, after that match Ferrer changed a lot.

Odds are a bit much on the David Ferrer as favorite in this match.
