World Number five Robin Soderling played his last match against defending champion, World Number One Roger Federer and won in four sets 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, and 6-4. Last year Soderling defeated World number two Rafael Nadal, Four times Champion at French Open in the Fourth Round and finally lost the title match to Federer at Roland garros but this time he defeated Federer in comfortable way.
Tomas Berdych is currently at number 17 in the World Rankings, has never won any Grand Slam Title in his carrier. He reached Semifinals first time in a Grand slam tournament and at Roland Garros his previous best performance is fourth round in 2006. He defeated British number one player Andy Murray in the fourth round with 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 and USA player John Isner(17) in the third round and Mikhail Youzhny in Quarters on the way of semis.
After Nadal, Berdych is the only one player reached semi finals without loosing a single set. Robin Soderling leads with 6-4 in head to head matches against Berdych. But recently Berdych defeated Soderling at Miami TMS Open in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
