Yes, those Auburn Tigers. The same Tigers who are in a division as the reigning, BCS National Champions – and the team that is likely to be the preseason No. 1 – Alabama Crimson Tide. They are also in the same division as the Arkansas Razorbacks, who are supposed sexy sleeper and the LSU Tigers, who are always hanging around near the front of the pack.

So why Auburn?

Last season, Auburn opened some eyes when they started the year 5-0. Sportsbook odds makers were quickly forced to adjust on their total as the Auburn offense that was stuck in the mud under Tommy Tuberville all of the sudden was lighting up the scoreboard.

On defense, they faded as they simply didn’t have the depth but they have plenty of talent returning a nice wave of good, young prospects coming in.

On offense, the unit should be even better now that creative coordinator Gus Malzahn has a legitimate quarterback to work with. Florida transfer Cameron Newtown is far more capable than anything Auburn had last year and they will really get rolling in the SEC West, where defense’s are either weak or rebuilding.

The Tigers won eight games last season, with two tight losses to Alabama and Georgia at the end of the year. This year, they’ll have a whopping eight home games with their toughest test coming in Alabama at the end of the year in the Iron Bowl.

Football betting fans better not sleep on the Tigers. With an easy schedule, tons of returning starters and a defense that is more talented than last year, this team will be in content for the SEC West – and SEC Title – all year long.
